Comics

Just started a new series of comics. Scott Pilgrim by Bryan Lee O'Malley.
Awesome. It's about a guy who meets the girl of his dreams, literally, but discovers that in order to date her he has to defeat her seven evil ex-boyfriends. The comics are a perfect blend of everyday geek storyline, with computer game fighting and references, topped off with some great writing. Some people complain that the art is poor but i think it's perfect for the story, and the characters look great. Full of original ideas I'd highly recommend the books, even though I've only read the first two.

Also you might have seen the trailer for the film they're making soon. Bringing together my recent joy for the comics and long time love of Michael Cera, stretching back to arrested development. If not here it is.

Awesome.

Oh yeah and the band who inspired the comic name, plumtree, are cool as hell. Check them out.

New Ghostbusters News

Everybody loves the Ghostbusters. That's basically a fact.
Twenty years on, the idea of a new ghostbusters movie is still a treat.
The good news it that it finally seems to be happening. After twenty years of speculation and at least a decade of writing, re-writing, contract negotiating and general hoo ha, its happening.

December last year, Harold Ramis, the director of the first two as well as Egon, gave an interview with Heeb magazine. In it he hinted that the time was right for a new ghostbusters.

Production is set for a release in summer 2011, better late than never i guess.
In the article Ramis says that the story will factor all the old ghostbusters as well as a team of new busters. At one point there were rumours of an appatow team like Seth Rogen and Paul Rudd. As awesome as this sounds all the named have shot this idea down one by one.
The article is also pretty interesting for Ramis' take on Groundhog Day, one of my favourites.

Next bit of news came from Sigourney Weaver in a channel four interview where she pretty much dropped the bomb. She let slip in the interview that she would be back for the third film as well as Bill Murray. Hinting to the storyline she said the Bill Murray would be returning as a ghost, as well as that her baby that played front and centre in the second movie will be one of the new ghostbusters. Good start, good start.
Murray confirmed this in an an article for the Mail on Sunday.

Recent reports have suggested that in keeping with the current spate of 3D movies, Ghostbusters will be released in stereoscopic 3D. Awesome.

The movie database page for the film shows that the old team of Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, Ramis and Murray are all on board, and highlights some rumoured participants.

So far thats all anyone can say about the plot is that there will be a new team, but if Bill Murray and Harold Ramis are on board its sure to be hilarious. The only question left is whether we see Rick Moranis back as Louis Tully. Please please please.

Trip to Barcelona for New Year 09/10

Happy New Year everyone!!

As i mentioned in my last post I spent a few days over new year in Barcelona with my parents and Sue.
Amazing. Good weather(considering the time of year), great food and some awesome sites.

We left early on new years eve so the first day was pretty hectic. We got to our hotel, the sunotel, just about midday. The hotel was about five mins away from Las Ramblas which is basically the main street in the centre of Barcelona.
First off, food. We took a random street on the way to Las Ramblas and found a cafe filled with locals. The menu was completely in spanish but between us we figured out a few things. Chorizo, anchovies, squid rings, patatas bravas, YUM.
On New Years eve we ate at a pizza place on Las Ramblas. Everywhere was busy and had fixed menus. That gave us time to enjoy some bellinis and kir royals.
We spent the New Year countdown in Catalunya Square just at the top of Las Ramblas. Unfortunately even though there was a huge clock in the square the countdown never really happened. Still a great celebration and more than a little boozy. Champagne popping everywhere!
Tired and on the way back to the hotel, Sue spotted a Guinness sign. We went to investigate and found a wee Irish pub just about a minute round the corner from where we were staying. Even though we just popped in for one last drink, we ended up staying till about half five in the morning thanks to an ace DJ hidden below the bar and my dad getting on well with the owner.
Needless to say the next morning we were all a bit tired. On New Years day not much was open. Our first stop was food so we headed to the hard rock cafe we saw in Catalunya Square the night before. Even though we waited a good while and it was heaving we sat downstairs which we found was almost empty. The food was okay but the whole meal was pretty overpriced compared to other meals we had.
The meal we had for dinner was much better. Just beside the universitat metro station we found place called Celler de Tapas. This place was ace. Upmarket Tapas made with Mediterranean food. Delicious.
The second was a more eventful day as more stuff was open and going on. We spent most of the day on a special tour bus. This bus had a set route around Barcelona and you could jump off and on the buses at any point. We stopped at the Port de Olympia, a port used for the racing events in the 92 Olympics. Even though we only stopped for the toilet we really enjoyed this stop. We ducked in to a little place called Marina Monchos. We were the first customers and and the staff were very welcoming. The seafood on display was amazing. Our next stop was the Segrada de Familia. A massive building built by Gaudi. Even though he started work on it in 1882 its still not completely finished. The views from outside were great but the queue was to big to get inside. Our last stop was the Parc de Guell, also designed by Gaudi. This is basically a garden with architectural features. It was more than a little bit crazy. I can imagine it being amazing on a sunny day. On the bus ride back home we saw loads more buildings designed in the modernist style by Gaudi.
On our final night we decided to have a big meal. Tempted by the seafood we went back to Marina Monchos. We had a huge seafood platter and Paellas. The seafood was unbelievable. Lobster. crabs, prawns, shrimps, oysters (which i wish i hadn't tried), mussels, all delicious. After dinner suitable fed and water we spent the night in the casino on the port. None of us really lost much so it was a good night!

Overall I had a great time in Barcelona and would definitely recommend it for New Year time!!
The pictures I took from the trip are still on my camera but as soon as i can link my laptop to the internet I'll link them here!

hello blogging world!

Hello hello hello

I've had this blogger page for a while but today I finally thought it was time to use it!

Even though the post has been knocked for six by christmas, I'm holding on to hope that my internet package for the flat will arrive anytime. Then I can stop hijacking my parents broadband! Time without a constant state of internet provision has been a tad strange. Expect these blog posts to increase and soon as that comes.
For New Year I'm heading to Barcelona with Sue (my girlfriend) and my maw and paw. I'll try and do some posts when I get back, get some good photos for you all.
Anyone doing anything exciting for New Year? Haven't heard a great deal.

Beyond posting about the new Year I haven't really got any plans for this blog. I spend a fair amount of time on the net and seeing as my exams are looming thats gonna increase. If I find anything interesting while I'm there I'll share it right here. Because sharing is caring. Obviously. Anything else exciting happening in my life or in general I'll give you my take on it too.

I'm pretty sure theres a comment section for each of these posts so your take is equally as important, I promise.
